The Northern Alberta Big Boat Regatta races are designed specifically for boats that measure over 12 metres (40 feet) in length. The Regatta is also meant as the City of Edmonton Championship for six person Outrigger Canoe.

The Regatta now includes Dragon Boats, Outrigger Canoes and 8 Person Rowing Shells to this event.
